Elder Gloria Young, a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church since 1960, became Moderator-Elect by vote of the Presbytery of Grand Canyon in January. In addition to being an elder, she is also a deacon, and has served Southminster in numerous capacities, including clerk of session.
 
Currently she is serving on the Presbytery’s Planning, Personnel and Review of Records Committees. She has been Moderator of the Presbyterian Women in Grand Canyon Presbytery, vice-moderator of the Committee on Ministry, and a member of the Social Justice and Peacemaking Committee.
 
Nationally, Gloria is a member of Presbyterian Health Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA), a ministry of the PC(USA) Peace and Justice Ministries, serving as co-moderator and treasurer of the Presbyterian Association for Community Transformation Network (PACT), community-based ministries of compassion, justice, worship and witness.
 
In addition to her work for the Presbyterian Church, Gloria worked for the State of Arizona, Department of Economic Security for 43 years in numerous capacities, while pursuing bachelor and master’s degrees at Arizona State University in the process. She retired in 2003, but when boredom set in she returned to work and now serves as a human resource analyst with the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.
 
Gloria has two sons and five grandchildren.
